Open space Wilfleinsdorf

In 2015, the world's first 16.7 Hz traction current solar power plant was commissioned in Wilfleinsdorf in Lower Austria - a showcase project that will be followed by others.

Photovoltaic system Wilfleinsdorf

With a collector area of around 7,000 m2, the solar panels feed the generated electricity directly into the catenary with minimal energy losses. The optimal solar irradiation, low shade and southern orientation are ideal conditions for the generation of "green" traction current.

Climate-friendly mobility - the "green railway"

Not without reason, energy is regarded as the backbone of our high-tech society in almost all areas of life. With the photovoltaic plant in Wilfleinsdorf, ÖBB is getting closer to its long-term goal of steadily increasing the self-generating share of  traction power supply in Austria through renewable energy sources. Even railways, currently the most environmentally friendly means of transport, rely on a secure, economical and environmentally friendly power supply for successful operations.
