Train running checkpoint data

A large number of train running checkpoints along the railway lines record the condition of vehicles during the journey around the clock and check safety- and operation-relevant characteristics in a total of more than seven million measurements per year. ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG offers railway undertakings access to the train running checkpoint data of their trains.

High standards for vehicle monitoring

The data generated from the train running checkpoint systems is used to protect infrastructure facilities such as bridges and other structures and to ensure safe operations. Train running checkpoint systems comply with the relevant ÖNORM standards and the respective state of the art and are regularly calibrated. The train running checkpoint data service includes setting up access to the electronic platform and providing the data. This data can be used to optimise maintenance scheduling and processes, to minimise complaints and to reduce costs.

How you benefit

    • Monitoring of vehicles during operation up to 250 km/h
    • Push messages via API programming interface
    • Data of the hot box detection systems (HBD), temperature measurement (in degrees Celsius): axle bearings, brake discs, wheel rims
    • Data from the wheel force and load detection systems (WILD): total weight of the vehicle (in tonnes), load distribution per axle (in tonnes), wheel and axle loads (in tonnes), load distribution and dynamic forces (in kilonewtons)
    • Historical data retrieval via API programming interface

Access to train running checkpoint data

Access is provided via an API programming interface (application programming interface) and includes the provision of access to the electronic platform and the provision of data. When placing the order, the railway undertaking (RU) has to specify a link (URL) to which the data is sent via the API programming interface by push message. The relevant technical documentation is made available on the API portal.

Retrieval of historical data

Additionally, we offer the option of retrieving specific historical data for the sensors of the hot box detection systems (HBD) and wheel force and load detection systems (WILD). Different filters such as train number, checkpoint or date enable the creation of lists and the retrieval of individual measurements using "Measurement ID". This means that all data no longer needs to be collected and analysed via push notifications.
