Gail bridge with train

Gail Valley Railway

The Gailtal railway between Arnoldstein and Hermagor has been completely modernised. In addition to extensive investments in stations and railway facilities, the entire line to Hermagor has been electrified. Passengers on the Hermagor - Arnoldstein line can thus enjoy a contemporary modern rail service.

Modernisation of the railway infrastructure

The modernisation of the railway infrastructure in the Gail Valley is an important building block for making public transport in Carinthia more attractive. Various station conversions have significantly increased the comfort for travellers and made it easier to switch to the environmentally friendly railway. The modernisation or abandonment of railway crossings also increases traffic safety in the area. It is not only from an ecological point of view, that the electrification of the entire line from Arnoldstein to Hermagor is the highlight of our modernisation initiative. The conversion to electric trains will save around 1300 tonnes of CO2 per year in the Gail Valley alone.

Arnoldstein railway station

Arnoldstein railway station will be converted into a modern mobility hub in several phases between 2020 and 2026. Comprehensive measures will not only significantly increase passenger comfort and make it easier to switch to public transport, but also create the necessary infrastructural conditions for modern railway operations.
