Upgrade Schaftenau–Radfeld

The new Lower Inn Valley railway in the Tyrol will be upgraded as required. The planned section between Schaftenau and Radfeld is part of the northern approach to the Brenner Base Tunnel. The goals are even more capacity and additional comfort for rail passengers.

Fast, environmentally friendly and safe by train through Tyrol: this is what the extension of the Unterinntalbahn (Lower Inn Valley) in the Schaftenau–Radfeld area will make possible. The project is currently in the planning phase. The new line will meet the highest quality standards. With its generous capacity, the approach to the Brenner Base Tunnel will in future meet all the requirements of a modern high-performance railway line.

Connection to the Brenner Base Tunnel

The first section of the new Unterinntalbahn between Kundl and Baumkirchen already went into operation in 2012. With the plans for further expansion in the direction of Kufstein, ÖBB-Infrastruktur is improving the offer for customers in regional and long-distance traffic in the long term. After completion, the Brenner Base Tunnel will develop its traffic effectiveness even more effectively due to suitable access routes. The Scandinavia-Mediterranean corridor is the most important north-south connection in Europe.
