Infrastructure-side ETCS keys
ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG provides track-side ETCS keys upon request to Infra-Key Management Center (KMC). These Keys are valid for five years.
Procedure for requesting an infrastructure-side ETCS key
You have a vehicle-side KMC or you are a vehicle owner.
Send an e-mail to kms.etcs@oebb.at with the following information:
- European Vehicle Number (EVN) (example: 31 81 665 0286-0)
- NID_Engine (ETCS-ID of the OBU) in decimal or hexadecimal form
- NID_KMC (ETCS ID of the on-board KMC) in decimal or hexadecimal form
- Baseline version of the OBU

Important information for vehicle owners
The vehicle owner is responsible for ensuring that a valid traction vehicle-side ETCS key is present on the vehicle. Any vehicle-side KMC is necessary for the creation of this ETCS key on the traction unit.
ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG is currently developing an on-board KMC that creates on-board ETCS keys – see Home-KMC as a Service (HaaS).
