Timetable & capacity redesign

TTR is a project of RailnetEurope (RNE) and Forum Train Europe (FTE) in cooperation with the European Rail Freight Organisation (ERFA) and ALLRAIL. The aim is to standardise and improve the timetabling process in Europe. The aim is to reorganise the capacity planning and allocation processes for Europe-wide harmonisation and digitalisation. The harmonised process begins with the capacity strategy from x-60 and ends with the allocation processes in occasional traffic.

Capacity strategy

The first planning element of TTR is the capacity strategy (x-60 to x-36). It provides information on the state of the infrastructure, major construction projects and available capacity and is used by the capacity owners for medium-term capacity planning. The planning granularity increases with the following planning elements, the capacity model (x-18) and the available capacity (x-11).

Capacity model

The capacity strategy is followed by the creation of the capacity model (x-36 to x-18), which is based on the existing traffic, supplemented by volumes from traffic forecasts, known service expansions and the RUs' announcements of infrastructure capacity requirements. At time x-18, the capacity model provides an overview of available capacities, the effects of major construction sites and the early detection of bottlenecks with the possibility of optimisation through systematisation. The capacity model shows the number of trains per hour according to dedication for a busy weekday.

Capacity supply

A modular structure with permanent development and integration of additional functions is planned. This primarily concerns the embedding of applications and the structured presentation of customer data, orders, invoices and complaints as well as their status. As a first step, the railpower box client web application has already been integrated into the customer platform.
