Extensive modernisation
Between Stainach-Irdning and Attnang-Puchheim, stations and stops are being made fit for the future. For example, passenger information systems and platforms are being modernised, tracks are being rebuilt and new electronic signal boxes are being installed. Railway crossings are also being modernised, merged or abandoned. This is financed by funds from ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG and the provinces of Upper Austria and Styria.

Why are the Mitterweißenbach, Lahnstein and Langwies stops being closed?
In order to attract even more people to the Salzkammergut Railway, a better timetable is also necessary. In other words, regular, clocked connections with shorter journey times and better connection possibilities. In order to achieve these goals, some stops have to be closed. The federal government, the province and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have chosen those stops where there is a very low passenger volume and at the same time an alternative public transport service: Mitterweißenbach, Lahnstein and Langwies.
