The low platforms at Straßwalchen will soon be a thing of the past. As part of the refurbishment, the station will be fitted with modern, covered platforms that will no longer be accessed via the tracks, but through a new passenger passageway complete with lifts. This will not only improve comfort but also significantly enhance safety. The new platforms will also be fitted with weather-protected waiting areas and modern information systems – including screens and loudspeakers.

The redevelopment will also lay the groundwork for improved local transport services. To ensure smoother operations, freight transport areas will be physically separated from passenger transport areas. The existing freight transport facilities will be redesigned and adapted to current requirements. This will make it even easier in future to load goods, such as timber, onto the environmentally friendly rail network.
Access to the pedestrian passageway will be via the new forecourt. A new Bike&Ride facility will also be built in this area. In consultation with the transport authorities and the market town of Straßwalchen, the bus interchange will also be adapted. The current number of Park&Ride spaces will be maintained despite the construction of the forecourt.
In addition, the technical infrastructure is being put in place to enable the station’s points and signals to be controlled from the Salzburg operations control centre in future. The railway bridges before and after the station area need to be widened due to the station redevelopment.
