Leonore Gewessler
Leoonore Gewessler is Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Austria since January 2020. Born on September 15, 1977, in Graz, Leonore Gewessler pursued her early education at the Volksschule Sankt Marein bei Graz and the Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium WIKU BRG Graz Sandgasse. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Vienna.

Political Roles: Since June 2022, Leonore Gewessler has served as the Deputy Federal Spokesperson for the Green Party. From October 22, 2019, to January 6, 2020, she was the Deputy Chairwoman of the Green Parliamentary Club, representing the Green deputies in the National Council, Federal Council, and European Parliament. Additionally, she is a member of the advisory board at the Green Education Workshop.
Professional Career: Leonore Gewessler has been the Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology in the Nehammer government since January 7, 2020. Prior to this, she was a Member of the National Council from October 23, 2019, to January 7, 2020, during the XXVII legislative period. From 2014 to 2019, she served as the Managing Director of the environmental organization Global 2000. Between 2008 and 2014, she was the Founding Director of the Green European Foundation (GEF) in Brussels. Earlier in her career, from 2006 to 2008, she led the office of the District Administration in Vienna-Neubau.
Herald Ruijters
Herald Ruijters is Deputy Director-General, responsible for Investment, Innovative & Sustainable Transport in DG Mobility and Transport. As regards investments in transport, his main responsibilities are the funding instruments Connecting Europe Facility and Horizon Europe and the financing instrument Invest EU. He is also responsible for the relationship with the EIB and with national and promotional banks. As regards innovative and sustainable transport, he assumes responsibilities for the development of the trans-European transport network, of the urban mobility framework, of alternative fuels infrastructure, of intelligent transport systems, as well as of passenger rights, social aspects and equal opportunities.

Since 1997 and until December 2023, Mr Ruijters held several positions in DG MOVE, as Director, Head of Unit, advisor to the European Coordinators, and in different roles developing the road safety policy. Before joining the Commission, he held various positions in The Netherlands related to transport. Mr Ruijters holds degrees from Nijmegen and Amsterdam Universities in both French literature and European Studies, and was post-graduated at the Centre Européen Universitaire in Nancy, in European Law, and in Business Studies at the University in Leuven.
Andreas Matthä
Since 2016, Andreas Matthä serves as CEO of Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB, and since 2020, as Chair of the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER). In addition, he is involved in the European Management Committee at the International Union of Railways. Andreas Matthä, a technician and controller by training, has a 40 year long track record in the railway sector.

He held a number of management positions at ÖBB and its subsidiary companies in the fields of railway infrastructure projects, human resource, finance and controlling as well as asset management. Under Andreas Matthäs’ leadership, ÖBB became a leading railway company in Europe in terms of passenger satisfaction and the biggest share of frequent travelers. Also, with the ÖBB Nightjet, he positioned ÖBB as the market leader for night trains in Europe.
Silvia Angelo
Silvia Angelo has been a member of the Management Board of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG since 2017, responsible for Finance, Service and Real Estate. Prior to that, the economist had already served on the company's Supervisory Board for two years. She gained professional experience as head of the economic policy department of Vienna’s Chamber of Labour and the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) office in Brussels, as well as in the Austrian Parliament. She is also currently a member of the Supervisory Board of Infineon Technologies Austria and Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of the Austrian Sport Resorts.

Johann Pluy
Since 2019, Johann Pluy has been a member of the Management Board of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG, responsible for Operations, Market and Digitalization as well as Corporate Development. He started his career at ÖBB in 1997. After a few years, he successfully reached a management position in the Power Plants division at ÖBB Infrastruktur AG. In 2010, he became head of the Energy division, and in 2014 he was finally appointed authorized signatory and head of the Railway Systems division. From 2016, he acted as Managing Director of ÖBB-Business Center GmbH. Mr Pluy holds a doctorate in electrical engineering.
Hans Joachim Schellnhuber
Hans Joachim Schellnhuber is currently Director General of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. In his professional career, he was the founding director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research from 1992 to 2018.

Since 2019, Schellnhuber has focussed his scientific work on the transformation of the built environment and the climate remediation potential of regenerative architecture. He is the founder of Bauhaus Erde and a member of the New European Bauhaus High-Level Roundtable. Schellnhuber has published around 300 scientific articles and books in the fields of fundamental physics, analysis of complex systems, climate change research and other areas. He is listed by Clarivate as a ‘Highly Cited Researcher’ (Cross Field).
Philipp Nagl
Philipp Nagl was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DB Netz AG in August 2022. From 2018 to 2022, he was Chief Operations Officer at DB Fernverkehr AG. In his role as head of supply, timetable, and traffic management for long-distance traffic, he significantly improved customer relations, vehicle strategies, and timetable concepts.

From 2011-2014, Philipp Nagl worked for the Austrian Railway Company ÖBB as head of business development for the passenger division. During this time, he successfully implemented new strategies in areas such as timetable, vehicle, night train, and distribution management. In his initial role with DB Fernverkehr AG, he carried out various initiatives and projects aiming at international growth, with a particular focus on the Germany-Austria-Italy connection via the Brenner tunnel.
Mr Nagl holds a PhD from the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where he also held a position as a lecturer as well as various research and consulting roles during his time there.
Alberto Mazzola
Alberto Mazzola has been CER Executive Director since January 2021, representing its members towards EU policymakers and advocating rail as the backbone of a competitive and sustainable transport system in Europe.
He holds a Master’s in Business Administration and Doctorate cum Laude in Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico Milan.

Monika Heiming
Monika Heiming has been Executive Director of EIM since October 2011. Monika has been active in Brussels as a lobbyist and manager of international associations and groupings for a number of years. Mrs Heiming, a German citizen, studied languages at the University of Cologne, and holds a Master’s degree in European Management from the University Faculties in Brussels and an Executive MBA from the Belgian Solvay Business School. Among her previous experiences, she has helped develop the association UNIFE in Brussels from 1993 to 1997.

Jens Engelmann
Jens Engelmann studied mechanical engineering/applied thermodynamics at RWTH Aachen University (doctoral thesis at Berlin Technical University). Former CEO and Chair of ADIF, the Spanish Railway Infrastructure Manager. During this period, the company has consolidated the liberalization process for HS passengers, managed the execution of the Next Gen Fund (6 billion €), and commissioned more than 200 km of new high speed lines.
Previously, during her 26 years at ADIF, she has held various management positions, such as General Director of Strategy, Planning and Projects, and Director of Studies and Projects. With a background of Civil Engineer Master’s Degree, she has been involved in the development of the Spanish High Speed Network since the beginning.
Absolutely convinced of continuous training, she holds a Degree in Law. She is an Ad Honorem Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, teaching classes in different master’s degrees and postgraduate courses.

Alain Quinet is currently Executive Director for Strategy & Corporate Affairs at SNCF Réseau and Co-Chair of PRIME, the platform of Rail Infrastructure Managers in Europe. An Inspector General of Finances, he has served in French public institutions ever since 1988.

Alain Quinet is also chairperson of the French Committee on the Value of Carbon and the author of articles and reports on climate change, long-term investment and infrastructure.
Peter Kummer
Since August 2020, Peter Kummer has been responsible for the infrastructure division and is member of the Executive Board at SBB. The infrastructure division guarantees optimal capacity utilisation for passenger and freight services thanks to professional train path management, efficient running, maintaining, and operating of the infrastructure and fixed railway installations.
