Telematics TSI in Operations

The Telematics TSI ensures a standardized and digital exchange of information between railway undertakings and infrastructure managers, such as ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG, during operations.

Train preparation and operational changes

The objective is to exchange up-to-date operational information between the participating undertakings in a standardized and, as far as possible, automated manner. This extends the digital process chain from train path planning to the actual train run. Even before departure, operational information regarding a train’s composition and readiness to depart can be exchanged electronically. Changes during ongoing operations are also supported by standardized processes. For example, if the planned route changes or a train cannot follow its intended path as planned, the affected partners can be notified in a structured manner.

Up-to-date information on the train run

During the train journey, real-time information on actual train operations is transmitted. This includes, in particular:

  • Actual arrival and departure times (TrainRunningInformationMessage)
  • Forecasts for the remainder of the train’s journey (TrainRunningForecastMessage)
  • Delays and their causes (TrainDelayCauseMessage)
  • Information on service interruptions (TrainRunningInterruptionMessage)

This allows deviations from the scheduled timetable to be detected early and processed by the relevant systems. Standardized communication creates a common information base, particularly in cross-border rail traffic.

Standardized interfaces in Operations

Communication is based on data models, message formats, and technical interfaces that are standardized across Europe. This enables information to be processed automatically and exchanged between different IT systems. Messages are communicated via the Common Interface or corresponding GUIs. For utilities and other market participants, this means fewer custom interfaces, clearer processes, and improved collaboration with infrastructure operators in both domestic and international transit.

Your benefits

    • Up-to-date and standardized information on train schedules
    • Early notification of deviations and delays
    • Transparent communication regarding disruptions and changes
    • Less manual coordination effort
    • Improved international cooperation
    • End-to-end digital process chain from planning to operations
