Modernisation for a thriving region

By modernising the Klaus station, ÖBB Infrastructure is investing in efficient transport in the Rhine Valley. The existing station is being comprehensively refurbished and adapted to meet the requirements of modern public transport.

Particular emphasis is placed on functionality, resource conservation and accessibility. By preserving the existing infrastructure, implementing specific climate adaptation measures and using selected building materials, a high-quality station is being created for passengers and the surrounding area.

What is being built?

As part of the project, the following are being constructed or implemented:

  •     Accessible entrances to the platforms
  •     New timber-framed structures
  •     Measures to reduce impervious surfaces and increase green spaces
  •     "Sponge city" elements for climate adaptation
  •     Improved routes for pedestrians and cyclists
  •     Modern design of the station surroundings
  •     Reuse of the existing building dating from the 1940s

Sustainability on the construction site

ÖBB is committed to the responsible use of resources during construction. Existing infrastructure will be preserved and reused wherever possible. This enables a reduction in material use, energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, provided that this is technically substantiated in comparison with a completely new build.

In addition, selected building materials and construction methods are being used that are designed to conserve resources and adapt to climate change. Through specific measures, the refurbishment demonstrates how modern rail infrastructure can be combined with the preservation of existing structures, the removal of impervious surfaces and adaptation to climate change.

Construction period

Work on the Klaus station is currently underway. The project is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.
