Mobility hub for the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley
The passenger stop at Wolfurt Train Station has been extensively modernised and is now an attractive and accessible mobility hub in the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley. In collaboration with the State of Vorarlberg and the market town of Wolfurt, ÖBB has adapted the station to meet the requirements of modern and sustainable mobility, with improved access to trains, buses and cycle paths. Passengers benefit from greater comfort, accessible access to the railway and better connections between the various modes of transport.
Well-connected on the move
Wolfurt is not just a railway station, but a key transport hub for the region. That is why the cycle parking facilities have been expanded and additional cycle lockers installed. The new platform canopy, featuring an integrated photovoltaic system, generates electricity from solar energy directly on site and adds a photovoltaic system to the station’s technical infrastructure. Together with the convenient connections to buses and cycle routes, this creates a modern transport network for the region.
Art from Wolfurt for Wolfurt
The newly redesigned pedestrian underpass adds a special touch. Together with local residents, the Vorarlberg artist Marbod Fritsch developed the art project ‘What Moves Us’. From 118 submitted sentences, an installation covering around 80 square metres was created, linking the railway station with the history, ideas and identity of the community. As a result, the underpass becomes far more than just a passageway – it becomes a place for people to meet and recognise one another.
An integrated approach to mobility
Wolfurt transport hub was designed as a modern mobility hub. Spacious ‘Bike & Ride’ facilities, bicycle lock-up boxes and direct connections between rail and bus services make it easier to switch to train, bus and cycle. In this way, the station strengthens the integrated mobility network in the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley.
