Völs Train Station

Völs Train Station is undergoing extensive refurbishment and will be made accessible to all

Accessibility-focused refurbishment and modernisation

Völs Train Station is undergoing extensive refurbishment and being made accessible as part of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG’s modernisation programme. The aim of the project is to develop the station – as a key transport hub in the central Tyrol region – to meet the requirements of modern rail operations and improve accessibility, whilst making access to the railway more comfortable, safer and easier for everyone.

Alongside the modernisation of the transport facilities, the existing station building will be retained and will continue to define the station’s appearance. In addition, the Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities will be expanded to make transferring between different modes of transport even more attractive.

Benefits for travellers and the region

  • The refurbishment will bring about numerous improvements:
  • Wheelchair-accessible access to the entire station
  • Greater comfort and safety for travellers
  • Preservation of the existing station building
  • Attractive Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities
  • Better integration of different modes of transport
  • Strengthening of public transport in the Greater Innsbruck area

Focus on accessibility

A key component of the project is the development of the station to ensure it is accessible to all. The measures will make it easier for people of all ages, as well as those with reduced mobility, to use the railway.

Plans include, amongst other things:

  • Step-free access to the platforms
  • Improved wayfinding and orientation
  • Safe and convenient access to trains
  • Adaptations for people with reduced mobility

These measures will transform Völs station into a modern and inclusive transport hub.

Key features of the project

Preservation of the existing building

A key feature of the project is the preservation of the existing station building. This ensures that a defining element of the station and its identity is retained. The focus is on functional modernisation without fundamentally altering the character of the site.

Expansion of transport options

In addition to the accessibility improvements, the Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities will be expanded. This will further improve the integration of rail, car and cycle transport, make it easier to switch between cycle, car and rail, and make the use of public transport in the Central Tyrol region more attractive.
