ZFM interface

Basic service for the use of an interface bundle for obtaining electronic timetable documents and electronic commands. The ZFM interface is included in the minimum access package.

Service information

The ZFM interface service provides a bundle of technical interfaces. With this, train-relevant contents of the electronic management of train movements can be obtained with suitable IT infrastructure and visualisation application.

How you benefit

    • All relevant train movement information is made available  in a bundled form
    • Automatic updating of data in real time

Order

The ZFM interface service is aimed at all railway undertakings and service providers that operate trains on the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG rail network and directly or indirectly employ train drivers for this purpose (see SNNB chapter 5.3).

The following companies are entitled to order:

  • Authorised railway undertakings with a current contractual relationship to ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG or
  • Companies with a current contractual relationship to an authorised railway undertaking (reciprocal confirmation required)

Ordering and administrative management is carried out via the online ordering system M-AMA in the Zugfahrtmanagement tab. The order is possible from the 2024 working timetable period (Q1/24).

Fallback level in case of failure

  • In the event of a connection failure at the start of the journey, the possibility of downloading the timetable documents in advance ensures that the drive can be carried out.
  • The previously used options for obtaining timetables in book form and La booklets remain in place. The retrieval of these documents remains the responsibility of the RUs.
  • In the event of a failure of the electronic command transmission, it is up to the dispatcher to decide whether to transmit commands in written form or verbally.

Conditions of use

Hardware provision and minimum hardware requirements

The RU is responsible for equipping employees with suitable hardware and operating it. Mobile devices (e.g. tablets) must at least meet the minimum requirements for operational use.

Software application for visualisation

A suitable visualization application is required for the display and use of train-related content, which is used on mobile devices (e.g. tablets). Either the infraDOAS application or a custom application can be installed for this purpose. The basic prerequisite for this is a suitable IT infrastructure on the part of the customer.

Interface technology

The content of the electronic management of train movements is provided using the following interface technologies

  • REST/SOAP web services for synchronous interfaces
  • File transfer for large amounts of data (asynchronous)
  • Message Queuing for event-driven messages (asynchronous)
  • Server-sent events for event-driven messages (asynchronous)

Mobile operator selection

The data transfer between the ZFM interface and infraDOAS takes place via the public mobile network. Customers need a contractual relationship with mobile phone providers for this. It is the responsibility of the RU to select mobile network operators that offer sufficient network coverage for data communication on the routes used.

RICS code

The four-digit RICS code (Railway Interchange Coding System) managed by UIC uniquely identifies companies in the rail sector is required for the electronic management of train movements.

Data storage

For long-term information and analysis in the event of a fault, as well as for subsequent/time-delayed evaluation and official preservation of evidence in exceptional cases (incident investigation), data shall be provided by the RU to ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG as required. ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG stores this data for ten years. See data protection (in particular 3.1.2).
