More capacity
The expansion will create the necessary capacity in the area on the west side of Linz Main Station. By doing this, we will also increase the quality of our operations. This means that we can get the best use out of the station and line tracks in terms of time. This enables trains to arrive and depart more frequently, which ultimately leads to better options for our customers.
Your benefits
-
- More capacity for passengers and freight
- Infrastructure in tune with the times
- Another step towards a continuous four-tracked Western line
The alternative to cars, traffic jams and searching for a parking space
However, the four-track expansion of the Western line does not only bring advantages for national and international long-distance rail traffic. Only with four tracks will a railway system with more frequent trains, an integrated interval timetable and a better range of trains for passengers and goods be possible in the future. This four-track solution creates a viable alternative to cars, traffic jams and searching for a parking space in Linz.
A continuous four track line
Travel quickly and comfortably from Vienna to Salzburg: The Western line is one of the most important traffic arteries in Austria. The line between Vienna and Linz Kleinmünchen has already been extended to four tracks throughout. This impresses thanks to considerably shorter journey times, modern stops and a high level of comfort when travelling. The Linz Main Station itself has actually been designed for a four-track connection in both directions since the reconstruction in 2004.
The east side of the Main Station was extended to four tracks between 2010 and 2018. The next step is upgrading the tracks between Linz and Wels. Now we have already started on the west side of Linz Main Station.
