All about planning

On the Tauern Line, a very important north-south railway connection, modernisation projects are being implemented step by step to make the line more attractive for public transport. The first renovations in the Gastein Valley will begin in 2023 with the measures at Schwarzach-St. Veit station. By 2027, all four stations will be fit for the future requirements of the popular tourist region of the Gastein Valley.

Bad Gastein railway station

The new Bad Gastein railway station will be an example of complete accessibility in the future. Here are some of the modern improvements that will increase the comfort of travellers:

Lift facilities: New lifts provide easy access to the platforms for all passengers. Passenger information and monitors: Clear information and displays help travellers to find their way around. Important announcements are made via loudspeaker announcements. Lighting: Well-lit areas ensure safety and orientation. Tactile guidance system and signposting: Tactile markings on the floor and clear signposting make it easier for visually impaired people to navigate. Redesign of the station forecourt: An optimised bus terminal improves links with public transport. Park & Ride facility: The new layout and attractive design of the Park & Ride facility make travelling by train even more convenient. Photovoltaic systems: The photovoltaic system on the roof of the reception building provides sustainable additional energy. Modifications to the tracks and overhead line system: These steps will optimise rail operations and make them safer.

Schwarzach St. Veit Railway Station

Barrier-free, comfortable, attractive. Barrier-free, comfortable, attractive. In 2023, the measures to make the Schwarzach St. Veit Railway Station 100 percent barrier-free, will begin. The first steps towards making it easier to switch to environmentally friendly mobility were already taken in 2020. The entire station forecourt was completely redesigned, and the Park&Ride and Bike&Ride facilities were expanded. Now the island platform (platforms 4/5) is getting a new tactile guidance system, new loudspeakers, lighting, wayfinding and a lift system. New, raised platform edges will ensure that passengers can board local trains comfortably and without barriers. Work on the tracks, signals and overhead lines will follow in further stages. A new electrical safety system will improve safety and efficiency in operations.
