Rail vehicles running on the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG network must be put into service in accordance with railway law (approval to place vehicles on the market), and also require certification of technical compatibility with our infrastructure. This certification (network compatibility declaration) is issued by the licensing centre and is the result of the network compatibility check. It also contains conditions for use on our network on a case-by-case basis in the event that some requirements are not fulfilled in full.
This also applies to rail vehicles to be used within the context of test and trial runs, measurement runs, transfers, demo runs, training runs and special runs in accordance with § 36(4) of the Austrian Railway Act 1957.
The only railway vehicles exempt from the requirement for a network compatibility check are those bearing one of the following interoperability marking: RIC (taking into account the requirements of Article 21(12) of Directive 2008/57/EC), RIV, TEN RIV, TEN G1, TEN GE.
With the aid of our Regulation 50-01-01 and the licensing centre documentation provided, you can find out about the steps required to obtain an ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG compatibility declaration quickly and easily.
